Last year, the gym that I call home, Elite Fitness and Personal Training hosted their annual charity powerlifting meet, Kilos for Cancer, at Buffalo Fitness Expo. I've been wanting to expand the sport in our area, and volunteered to run a strongman competition as part of it. There was a lot to consider being indoors, we had to keep the floors in mind and avoid many moving events like farmers or yoke. We kept things simple with 4 events: axle c/p, car deadlift, sandbag carry, and stone over bar.
All of the people competing were first time strongman competitors with powerlifting or bodybuilding experience. The guys really showed what they were made of. Not a single strongman quit before 60 seconds on any of the events. I love watching people drain their tanks while the other competitors scream at them for one more rep. Cheers to you guys, you gave one hell of a fight and really pushed your fellow competitors.
Huge thanks to Adam and Elite Fitness & Personal Training for the opportunity to run the show and helping with transporting the implements, to Zach and State of the Arc Welding for fabricating, donating, and transporting the car deadlift frame, to Romer and the Buffalo Fitness Expo for trusting me and allowing I&S to set up, to Billie, Anthony, JD, and Alisha for helping judge and run the booth, to Tony for the trophies and help, and to the competitors that trusted me with their safety and helped make my first event a successful one.
First event as a promoter in the books, onward and upward from here!
